BACKYARD BOOGALOO
Alas, after months of planning and weeks of preparation, it seemed Backyard Boogaloo 2025 would have to be canceled due to inclement weather. It was the 16th Saturday in a row that it rained in Downeast Maine. Uncanny! Rain was forecast from Friday night through Sunday morning. Too bad there would be no yard games, fire pit, outdoor stage. Though typical for Rio Bisbee,Band to be canceled for whatever reason, Bisbees’ spirits were undampened, intent undeterred. Switch to Plan B - Backyard Boogaloo transmogrified into Studio 455 Super Session with Bisbees Harrison, Mike, Al DeaL Yo, and guest artists Eric Meyer, Duffy Llama, Addison, Rob, Chris. This multifarious musical ensemble jammed an eclectic blend of musical styles from tango, to rock, to pop classics on a variety of instruments: drums, strings, keys including, for the first time in 45 years of Rio Bisbee music, an accordion! Eric led his complex originals, and accompanied the band. Duffy pumped away at his iridescent Hohner accordion on which he plays every style. Rob thumped his cajonito, Chris strummed his guitar. Addison played bass and sang some of his favorite hits, very exciting vocals. He said he would like to come back! Al Deal did a late-night set of his signature metal guitar style. Barb laid on a lavish spread of delicious country home cooking and Zeppa’s New York pizza for artists and guests to graze. A selection of social lubricants enhanced conviviality unto hilarity as the evening progressed and more guests arrived. Music began at 5 pm, continued to midnight, with musicians switching off with each other in an all-night game of Musical Instruments. Six hours of spontaneous music is recorded for posterity, will be mixed, mastered and posted for Bisbee-Ites who were unable to attend this latest Rio Bisbee.Band near-miss. It was a save, not a fail - a splendid time was had by all!
Op-hoy!
